  • What Other Services Do You Provide?

We also provide granite and stone sealing, anti-slip treatments for tiled surfaces, and caulking installation. View a full list of our tile services.

  • Should I Seal My Tile As Well As Grout?

Almost all modern tiles don’t require a sealant. If you have ceramic tiles, porcelain tiles, certain non-porous stones, or composite tiles, then it’s likely that they will never require a sealant. We’ll be sure to assess whether or not your tile is porous before applying a sealant, so that we can seal your grout effectively.

  • What Do I Need To Do To Maintain The Sealant On My Tiles And Grout?

Each sealant will have its own maintenance guidelines and precautions. We’ll let you know how best to clean your tile surfaces after the grout sealant is applied. And we’ll inform you of the expected longevity of the sealant. You should have your surfaces inspected regularly to ensure that the sealant is still performing.

  • How Do You Apply Sealant?

To apply a grout sealant, we’ll first clean your surface, ensuring that it is free from any debris, bacteria, mold, or mildew. Then, once the surface is dry, we’ll apply the sealant that you’ve decided on. We use specialized tools to ensure that we reach all of the grout throughout your tile surfaces. Once the sealant has had sufficient time to penetrate and adhere to the surface of the grout, we’ll remove excess grout sealant. Finally, we’ll clean your tile surface.

  • Can I Apply A Grout Seal Myself?

While grout sealing can be done on your own, we recommend that you have your surfaces sealed professionally to ensure that they are fully protected. Beyond that, hiring a professional will reduce the time it takes to complete the job, and our tools and experience ensure that the job is done the right way, the first time. You can trust that your sealant and entire tile surface will be protected for years on end.

  • Does Sealant Protect Against Stains?

Absolutely. Since grout sealant is designed to keep liquids above the surface of the grout, stains are rare. Be wary that some cleaners may wear away at the sealant, and certain liquids can damage the sealant. That said, oil- and water-based liquids should not penetrate the surface, which means that staining is impossible.

  • How Long Does It Take For The Grout Sealant To Dry?

Sealant usually dries in a day, depending on the type of sealant used for your project. After 24 hours, your grout sealant should be fully cured, and you can resume regular foot traffic and use of your surfaces. At this point, your grout should be fully protected against stains and liquid penetration.

  • Does Grout Sealant Change To Color Or The Grout?

It depends. You can invest in either clear sealant or colored sealant. Clear sealant will not change the color of the grout, and the grout should even be the same shade after the sealant has dried. Colored sealant is designed to change the color and/or shade of the grout. Let us know if you’d like to use a clear sealant, or if you’d like to change the color of your grout. We have a variety of sealants available, and would be happy to cater to your preference.

  • How Long Does Grout Sealant Last?

Sealant can last anywhere from one to 15 years, depending on the type of sealant, the type of grout, and the condition of the surface. You may also need to reseal your surface more often if it is exposed to weather, heavy foot traffic, or if it is constantly being cleaned (among other forms of wear and tear). Speak with an expert here at Groutsmith if you’re curious about the longevity of the sealant that you’re opting to use for your grout.

  • How Can I Tell If My Grout Is Sealed?

If your home has tile surfaces, but are unsure if the grout between tiles is sealed, you can easily test the grout. Simply place a few drops of water on the surface of the grout. If the grout doesn’t absorb the water after some time, then it is properly sealed. Water will bead up on a properly sealed surface.

  • When Can I Seal My Grout After Tile Is Installed?

If you’ve just had new tile installed, you should wait two to three days at the least before having a sealant applied. It’s crucial that your grout is dry before applying a sealant, or else the grout may simply absorb the sealant, instead of creating a protective layer on the surface of the sealant.

  • Why Should I Seal My Grout?

Seal your grout if it’s liable to stain, retain water, or crack and chip. Consider grout sealing in spaces that are exposed to moisture. And seal grout where mildew, mold, and bacteria are liable to grow. Take note that some grouts do not require a sealant, such as epoxy grout, so be sure to ask your tile expert if grout sealant is necessary for your surfaces. You may also want to seal your grout to improve the look of your tile surfaces. We’d be happy to work with you to find the right sealant to provide the color and shade of grout that you desire.
